Mexico is currently living through a period of great violence and turmoil. As part of a wider growth in activism and social involvement, many artists are producing social critiques through unconventional art forms and practices.

The Paint Stained Hands Foundation is one of the most recent projects led by Emiliano Gironella, an established Mexican artist who has developed an impressive body of work on violence in Mexico.

These include his book Artempatía/Empathy Art and art workshops aimed at children orphaned by violence that are run at his foundation Manos Manchadas de Pintura (Paint Stained Hands).
